Julian's Profile

Julian was developing advertising ideas for Nestle, Sunrise and China Airlines as a Junior Art Director at Black and Brown Advertising and KHK D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles before embarking into the digital realm. He first embraced the use of computers for Graphic Design at the advertising agency with the aim of merging both the conventional and digital methods for advertising production. As the dotcom era began, Julian was involved in web design development for GettingHere.com, a web travel portal which was the template for most travel booking sites we see today. Early during the millennium, he was given the opportunity to lecture at a local premier art institution under the Electronic Design & Multimedia programme by RMIT, Australia and has not looked back since. His education viewpoint is that he believes in and implements practice-based education and research largely attributed to his advertising experience. Julian at present, has approximately 20 years of teaching experience in Malaysia and 3 years in New Zealand as a casual lecturer, often involved in digital design exhibitions prior to returning home. Julian’s digital works have been exhibited at New Zealand’s St. Paul’s Gallery (2005 and 2006) and France’s Chaumont Graphisme (2009).

He currently speaks on “idea generation and mind-mapping” and Design thinking to National Schools as part of community engagement to encourage creative thinking amongst youth whilst retaining a teaching portfolio at the
University College.  Due to his involvement with youth, Julian has conducted corporate workshops on “Social Media and Internet Safety” and “Trying to understand Generation Z” for matured audiences in trying to bridge the generational gap.

He was involved as a consultant for ACE Pictures Entertainment LTD to develop content for film and coverage. His film credits include Clemency (2019), Color of Space (2019), Come Away (2021) and Measure of Revenge (2022). At present, he is writing feature scripts for production and figuring out how to tell meaningful stories that cross the boundaries of media space and passive participation. His feature script, Time to Leave has won the World Film Carnival Award for best screenplay (2022) and officially selected for Scriptify (2022).

Julian is an experienced academic lead with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education and practical industry. He is skilled in Digital Media Management, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development and Social Media Education with emphasis on youth centric outcomes. He is a strong academic professional with a Master honours degree from New Zealand, with that prioritizes team and trust building.
